Should founders do 10-minute intro calls with investors before they start fundraising?

Yes, it’s a great approach to build relationships with investors well before you need to fundraise!

It might not be the right time now but investors can see your progress as you grow your startup. Be intentional to only approach investors who are a good fit for you.

If you meet an investor who only invests in Aerospace (as an example), don’t pitch your FinTech company. It’s a good idea to prepare a list of your dream investors who have backed similar companies like yours.

But how do you actually meet these people?

The best way is through a founder that this investor has already backed. This warm intro makes the relationship a lot easier than starting cold (which isn’t impossible, just harder).

Once you have the initial meeting, invite that prospective investor to be part of your investor newsletter updates. This is an organic way for them to learn more about your business and for you to plant more seeds in the relationship.

So when it’s time to fundraise, you’ll have investors who are familiar with you and your business.
